Hyperactive Dogs – Five Aides to Calm Them.

Hyperactivity is not uncommon in dogs and can have many causes. Presented below are a few suggestions that may be beneficial in calming your rambunctious dog.

First examine your energy behavior.

  • Often our reactions and responses are transmitted unknowingly to the pet.
  • Do you over-react and unleash a lot of energy due to some situation- or do you react calmly and steadily?
  • Is your voice quality often shrill and inflammatory or is it moderated in pleasant and assuring tones?

Anxiety and taut edginess are easily relayed to a dog also, so please keep that in mind. While dog walking or dog sitting, ensure you are compassionate and friendly to the pet. This will help to curb hyperactivity or stop a dog from jumping up.

Ignore and starve the negative expressions.

By ignoring the unwanted behavior you will not be rewarding the dog for what it thinks you like. You will be teaching your pet that the negative behavior gets absolutely zero encouragement and it will soon stop. When your overzealous dog next leaps and nips at you, totally ignore it-- no eye contact, speech or touch. The result may surprise you as it quiets down. Often, a subtle yet firm look can stop a dog barking at other dogs. Be cautious about the dog leash pulling as pulling dog can be dangerous for dogs but not curb its over zealous and hyperactive behavior.

Walk your dog!

With a lot of pent up energy the best solution is to dissipate that in a good brisk walk. Nipping, excited energy will be drained from them as you take command and direct your dogs energy the way you want it directed. Your dog will be more pleasant to teach and control when he is nicely relaxed. When a hyperactive dog also chews objects or barks at any pretext, it may be because it is bored and wants some work outs. When hiring a dog walker, ensure you get one whose dog walking job would be strictly perform walking duties.

Give your dog something to do!

With an excess of energy your pet craves something it can naturally focus its overabundant zeal on. Hyperactivity can stem from psychological as well as physical causes. By tasking your dog with something to concentrate on, it dissipates some of the mental component involved.

Aromatherapy.

More than any other sense, dogs are supremely influenced by the sense of smell. As humans are said to be agreeably influenced by the scent of lavender,  dogs too are affected by an even wider range of scents and smells that can indeed alter and influence their mood and behavior. Try consulting a holistic pet professional or a vet to determine which scents may have the calming key to your dogs hyperactive behavior. Any aggressive dog would also become amiable through aromatherapy.
